Way of Life, Studio Kura

Artist Residency Exhibition

23- 24 December 2017

Inspired by the rich cultural heritage of Itoshima's numerous shrines and temples, this installation art delves into this traditions and customs that permeate daily life. Over millennia, the origins and meanings behind these practices may have become ambiguous or lost, yet the local community steadfastly upholds them as a source of peace, communal interaction, and inner tranquillity

— a 'religion of Life' or š—Ŗš—®š˜† š—¼š—³ š—Ÿš—¶š—³š—².

The elevated space chosen for this installation adds to its significance. As viewers ascend the stairway and pass through layers of 'paper scrolls' reminiscent of torii gates, they transition from the physical realm into an inner meditative space. This journey symbolizes crossing the boundary between the tangible world and the serene, inviting contemplation and reflection on the timeless rituals and spiritual dimensions embedded within Itoshima's culture.
